Red Murdock is officially the 2026 NFL Draft's "Mr. Irrelevant," selected by the Denver Broncos as the 257th and final pick. His selection wraps up Denver's draft class, which includes seven players. Murdock, a standout linebacker from Buffalo, holds the NCAA record for career forced fumbles with 17. Last season, he tallied 142 total tackles, five sacks, and six forced fumbles, and in 2024, he set a personal best with 156 tackles and seven forced fumbles in a single season.
The "Mr. Irrelevant" title celebrates underdog stories and comes with its own tradition, “Irrelevant Week,” honoring the latest pick. The legacy of this title gained traction when 2022's Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy, led the San Francisco 49ers to the NFC Championship Game as a rookie. The Broncos, last season's AFC West champions, made strategic selections after trading out of the first two rounds, adding talent to both offense and defense. Murdock joins a defense that was second-best in the league, allowing 278.2 yards per game. With key re-signings and new additions, Denver aims to strengthen its roster as it looks to defend its title.
