Jon Armstrong proves he belongs in the World Rally Championship’s top tier after an impressive showing in Croatia. Here’s why his performance could redefine his trajectory this season.

Armstrong, M-Sport Ford’s new recruit, made headlines by posting top-three stage times across ten tests in Croatia, showcasing his potential against established rivals from Toyota and Hyundai. Previously the 2025 European Rally Championship runner-up, he aimed to establish his place among rallying's elite after stepping up to Rally1 machinery.

Despite an error that sidelined him for part of the Friday loop, Armstrong and co-driver Shane Byrne bounced back, finishing third in the overall Super Sunday standings and securing six crucial points on the Power Stage. They narrowly missed a stage win, finishing just 0.1 seconds behind reigning champion Thierry Neuville.

Armstrong indicates that his next target is a top-five finish, eyeing opportunities in the upcoming Canary Islands rally. He acknowledges the need to adapt to gravel surfaces but is confident in his performance thus far. “We have shown what we can do and we belong here,” he states, emphasizing his determination to keep pushing forward in the competition.
