The IBF withdraws sanctioning for Jai Opetaia's cruiserweight title defense against Brandon Glanton. This decision comes hours after Opetaia announced the fight, which was also meant to compete for the inaugural Zuffa Boxing Championship. The IBF states it was misled about Zuffa’s title being merely a trophy. Opetaia had positioned the matchup as a unification bout, but Zuffa Boxing lacks IBF recognition and does not meet its regulatory standards. The IBF clarifies that if Opetaia fights in an unsanctioned contest, he risks losing his title, regardless of the outcome. This would mark a second title loss for Opetaia, following his 2023 bout against Ellis Zorro instead of mandatory challenger Mairis Briedis. Opetaia joined Zuffa Boxing in January, aiming for undisputed status. He emphasizes the pursuit of being undisputed as his primary goal.
