This fight marks Joshua's first since a tragic car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close friends. Having sustained injuries, Joshua emphasizes that he is mentally prepared and has resumed full training. He has formed a close bond with former rival Oleksandr Usyk, who has been mentoring him. Usyk even inspired Joshua with a motivational message: “AJ. You can. Undisputed 2027.”
Despite initial doubts, Joshua embraces the challenge. He acknowledges the difficulty ahead but is determined to chart a clear path to reclaiming the title. At 36, he believes he has the stamina to fight until 40, considering himself tougher and more mature. Joshua’s motivation has shifted to honoring the families of his late friends, stating he wants to be a strong presence for them.
With Usyk holding three major titles and Daniel Dubois owning the WBO belt, Joshua's immediate focus remains on defeating Prenga. He recognizes the importance of this fight as a stepping stone to a potential clash with Tyson Fury later this year.
