Moses Itauma gears up for his return to the ring in London on August 8, aiming to replicate Tyson Fury’s successful U.S. debut. Here’s why this move could elevate Itauma's career to new heights.
Itauma boasts an impressive record of 14-0 with 12 KOs, rapidly becoming a standout in the heavyweight division. Promoter Frank Warren sees a significant opportunity in the U.S. market, where Richard Torrez Jr. is currently the only American fighter in ESPN's top 10 rankings. Warren believes a fight stateside will amplify Itauma's profile, similar to Fury’s rise after his iconic bouts against Deontay Wilder.
Warren emphasizes the potential impact, stating, "Tyson went out there to challenge Wilder... It’s the highest grossing heavyweight fight ever." He insists that if Itauma fights in the U.S., fans will quickly embrace him, declaring, "He is phenomenal."
Itauma, ranked No. 5 by ESPN, previously expressed interest in facing Filip Hrgovic, but the Croatian will fight Dave Allen on May 16. Before heading to the U.S., Itauma will face a top-10 opponent in August. Warren envisions Itauma being in championship contention by 2026, regardless of the U.S. venture. Meanwhile, the anticipated Fury vs. Anthony Joshua fight is likely to happen in November.
