Sixteen Canadian sailors head to the 2026 Princess Sofia Trophy Regatta in Palma de Mallorca from March 30 to April 4. This regatta kicks off the Grand Slam Series, serving as the first major competition of the year for the Canadian Sailing Team. Antonia and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance from Chester, N.S., start the season ranked No. 1 in the 49erFX class after an impressive 2025, where they secured gold at the 49erFX European Championship and bronze at both the French Olympic Week and Kiel Week, as well as at the 49erFX World Championship. A total of 62 boats will compete in the 49erFX, featuring three medalists and eight top-10 teams from the 2025 World Championship. “This event is crucial for our preparation for the World Championships in May,” said the Lewin-LaFrance sisters. The sailing world anticipates an intense showdown with over 1,100 competitors participating.
