Clipper 70 CV31 embarks on a new adventure as it transforms into the Spirit of Shackleton, aimed at inspiring young sailors. This change marks the first sale from the Clipper 70 fleet, which has completed five circumnavigations and introduced countless individuals to ocean racing.
The Spirit of Shackleton will serve as a floating classroom based in Dún Laoghaire Harbour, Co. Dublin, Ireland, named in honor of the legendary explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. Clipper Ventures plans to sell the entire fleet of Clipper 70s as they prepare to launch their next-generation yachts, the Clipper RX, for the 2027-28 race.
While the current race teams navigate towards Panama, CV31 remains in Gosport for its transformation. Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Chairman of Clipper Ventures, expresses pride in this repurposing, emphasizing the Clipper 70s' legacy of empowering non-professional sailors to conquer the world's toughest oceans.
The fleet has not only facilitated remarkable sailing achievements but has also contributed to significant milestones, such as Wendy Tuck’s historic win in the 2017-18 race, the first by a woman. Currently, the ongoing race boasts the highest number of female sailing professionals, including four skippers and seven first mates.
