Grace Arlandson and Adam Lewis seize their first UCI victories in a thrilling breakaway at stage 3 of the Tour of the Gila. Here’s why these wins could shift the dynamics of the competition.

In a stage that typically favors sprinters, both Arlandson and Lewis broke away to clinch victory. Arlandson, racing for Aegis x Leaders of Enchantment, completed the 74.1-mile Inner Loop road race ahead of teammate Lauren Stephens and Kira Payer (Speedblock p/b Terun). The race saw the women's peloton fracture early, with a strong group of eight forming after a crash prior to the first QOM. The chasing peloton finished a staggering 11:24 behind.

In the men's race, Adam Lewis, also claiming his first UCI win, outpaced his APS teammate Conn McDunphy, who secured second place. Carlos Garcia (Olinka) rounded out the podium, finishing 1:41 back. Walter Vargas (Medellín-EPM) maintained his overall lead, with a 17-second cushion over Henrique de Silva Avancini (Localiza Meoo-Swift).

The five-stage Tour continues with the Downtown Silver City Criterium on Saturday, as these results set the stage for fierce competition in the final stretch.
