Brodie Chapman confirms a fractured pelvis following a crash at the Tour of Flanders. This injury alters her season and raises questions about athlete safety in high-stakes racing.
The Australian cyclist, 35, faced a brutal fall with 53 kilometers remaining in the 164-kilometer race when she was forced off the road. Despite initial hospital checks clearing her of serious injury, further scans revealed the fracture, which she insists was dismissed earlier. "The pain was pretty bad...something happened to my hip," Chapman shared on Instagram.
Having previously finished ninth in 2022, her return to the Tour ended in disappointment. Prior to the crash, she performed well this season, placing fifth at the Vuelta a Extremadura Femenina and second in the Australian Time Trial Championships. Chapman now heads home to Andorra to recover.
