The Itzulia Women 2026 route promises an intense three days of racing in the Basque Country, featuring 14 significant climbs. Here’s why this event could redefine the competitive landscape in women's cycling.
Scheduled from May 15-17, the race kicks off in Zarautz, covering a total of 372.4 kilometers and culminating in Donostia (San Sebastián). Each stage is packed with elevation, totaling 1,729 meters of climbing that will challenge even the toughest competitors.
Stage 1 starts and ends in Zarautz, marking the town’s debut in the women's race. Riders face six major climbs, including the demanding Santa Ageda (8km at 6.8%). With 2,239 meters of elevation gain over 121.3 kilometers, aggressive tactics will be essential from the start.
Stage 2 is even more grueling, featuring five classified climbs and the highest elevation of the event at 2,474 meters. The 131.7-kilometer route from Abadiño to Amorebieta-Etxano includes a sharp ascent at Natxitua (2.5km at 8%).
The final stage returns to Gipuzkoa's capital for a thrilling finish, ensuring this edition of Itzulia Women will be one for the history books.
