Elisa Balsamo of Lidl-Trek secures her fourth stage victory at the Giro d'Italia Women, dominating stage 6 with a thrilling sprint finish. This win solidifies her position as the race's premier sprinter, leaving competitors in her wake.
Despite fierce competition, the stage featured significant tactical maneuvers. Uno-X Mobility's aggressive push split the peloton in the crosswinds, catching key riders like Demi Vollering (FDJ United-Suez) and Elisa Longo Borghini off guard. While the early break of four riders faltered, the group with Vollering regrouped after intense effort, rejoining the main pack 46.5km from the finish.
As the race intensified, Giorgia Serena (Mendelspeck E-Work) made a bold solo attack, gaining a minute lead before being caught with 9km to go, setting the stage for a high-stakes sprint. A crash 1.2km from the line strung out the remaining riders, but Lucinda Brand expertly guided Balsamo through the chaotic finish.
Maggie Coles-Lyster (Human Powered Health) initiated her sprint with 250m to go, yet Balsamo unleashed her speed, surging past to claim victory. The final standings reflect Balsamo's mastery, crossing the line at 3:54:02, ahead of Coles-Lyster and Georgia Baker (Liv AlUla Jayco).
