Florian Vermeersch expresses disappointment after failing to close the gap on Mathieu van der Poel during the E3 Saxo Classic. Vermeersch, part of a chase group, criticizes his companions for “gambling” rather than cooperating to reel in the Alpecin-Premier Tech rider. Despite battling back from mechanical issues earlier in the race, Vermeersch and his teammates reduced Van der Poel's lead to just three seconds in the final kilometer. However, a lack of collaboration in the chase allowed Van der Poel to secure his third consecutive E3 victory. Vermeersch acknowledges the frustration of not winning, saying, “There was no cooperation anymore, and we didn't catch him.” He emphasizes that he wasn’t willing to be the only one making the effort to close the gap. The race outcome leaves him reflecting on missed opportunities.
