Franziska Koch of FDJ United-Suez clinches her first major victory by outpacing Marianne Vos in a thrilling sprint at Paris-Roubaix Femmes. This race delivers a powerful reminder of the fierce competition in women’s cycling.
Koch, Vos, and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot formed a lead trio after a strategic move by Ferrand-Prévot on a rise following the Mons-en-Pévèle sector. As the race unfolded, Koch launched an attack on sector 6, with Vos closely trailing. Ferrand-Prévot initially fell back but regrouped, setting the stage for an intense finish.
With 4.5 kilometers remaining, Koch surged ahead, leaving Ferrand-Prévot behind while Vos remained on her wheel. In the final stretch, both riders launched their sprints side by side. Vos briefly took the lead, but Koch fought back fiercely, edging past Vos just before the finish line.
Koch expressed disbelief at her victory, stating, “It’s like a dream.” She emphasized the importance of positioning throughout the race and her team’s strategy to make the race challenging. Against the odds of competing with two riders from Visma-Lease a Bike, Koch navigated the pressure effectively, leading to a memorable triumph at Roubaix.
