Stage 8 of the Giro d'Italia Women faces a dramatic change as organizers shorten the route due to safety concerns from unstable ice.

The finish is relocated to Sestriere, just 1km from the top of the Colle delle Finestre, a key climb in this mountain stage. This decision comes after reports of an avalanche blocking the road, prompting a swift announcement with only 7.5km left in the climb.

The race's social media confirmed, "For safety reasons, the stage will finish approximately 1 km before the Colle delle Finestre GPM." At the time of the announcement, FDJ-Unitez SUEZ had significantly reduced the group of favorites, with Demi Vollering ultimately claiming victory in an unexpected finish marked by two rocks.

Despite the abrupt changes, crowds remained enthusiastic as they greeted the riders. The late adjustments limited the opportunity for a strategic general classification battle, leaving contenders like Antonia Niedermaier, Isabella Holgren, and pink jersey holder Anna van der Breggen to follow Vollering's attacks closely.

This stage marks the first appearance of Colle delle Finestre in the women’s Giro, a legendary climb known for its role in the men’s race, where stars like Chris Froome have shone.
