The Giro d’Italia Women reaches a pivotal moment with Stage 4 featuring a grueling 12.7km individual time trial from Belluno to Nevegal. This stage promises to shake up the general classification as riders tackle a steep final 7.4 kilometers averaging an 8.2% gradient and peaking at 14%.
The start order is based on the general classification, with last-placed Ilaria Marinetto kicking things off at 13:05 local time. A total of 144 competitors will depart at one-minute intervals, with the last 15 starting at three-minute intervals.
Key contenders for the stage victory include reigning time trial world champion Marlen Reusser (Movistar), starting at 15:02, and Demi Vollering (FDJ United-Suez), set to begin at 15:34. Anna van der Breggen (SD Worx-Protime), who placed third at the world championships, follows nine minutes later.
Early hot seat contenders include Swedish time trial champion Stina Kavegi (EF Education-Oatley) at 14:17, Isabella Holmgren (Lidl-Trek) at 15:07, and Viktória Chladoňová (Visma-Lease a Bike) at 15:09. Meanwhile, three-time stage winner Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek) holds a precarious 30-second lead that may not withstand the challenge ahead.
