Grischa Niermann, head of racing at Visma-Lease a Bike, is set to make a major move to Lidl-Trek, replacing long-time general manager Luca Guercilena.
This transition could reshape the leadership dynamics of two prominent cycling teams. Niermann’s tenure at Visma, which began after Merijn Zeeman left for football in September 2024, has been marked by significant success, including guiding the team to its second Giro d’Italia title with Jonas Vingegaard.
Niermann’s experience spans a decade in managerial roles and a successful professional riding career. Under his leadership, Visma achieved ten Grand Tour victories featuring top riders like Vingegaard, Primož Roglič, Simon Yates, and Sepp Kuss. His move to Lidl-Trek not only signals a shift in management but also the end of an era for Guercilena, who has been instrumental in developing the team since its inception in 2011.
As Lidl-Trek transitions to a German-flagged team in 2026, Niermann brings crucial expertise to steer the squad forward. Meanwhile, Marc Reef is anticipated to step into Niermann's role at Visma, continuing the team’s legacy of strong performance in the sport.
