João Almeida plans to undergo medical tests following his lackluster performance at the Volta a Catalunya. The Portuguese cyclist, who previously excelled with three WorldTour wins last year and a second-place finish at the Vuelta a España, struggles throughout the event, finishing 38th overall. Ahead of the final stage, Almeida admits he feels unwell on the bike, stating, "I just need to rest a bit and maybe see what’s wrong with me." Despite a strong start to the season with a runner-up finish at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana and third at the Volta ao Algarve, Almeida withdrew from Paris-Nice due to flu-like symptoms. His performance in Catalunya deteriorated after a crash on stage 5, leading to significant time losses in the final stages. Almeida emphasizes that the crash is not the root of his issues.
