Mads Pedersen, the three-time In Flanders Fields champion, will not compete this Sunday due to illness. The 31-year-old cyclist has a cold, as confirmed by Lidl-Trek. This setback halts his bid for a record-breaking fourth win in the prestigious race.
Pedersen was a top favorite alongside Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Premier Tech), Arnaud De Lie (Lotto-Intermarché), and Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike). With Pedersen sidelined, Lidl-Trek shifts focus to Jonathan Milan, who finished third last year.
Last week, Pedersen showcased resilience with a fourth-place finish in Milan-San Remo, marking a strong return after injuries. He also placed ninth in the E3 Saxo Classic. Despite this illness, Pedersen aims to target the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix in upcoming races. His absence from Flanders Fields represents another challenge in his Spring Classics campaign.
