Daxton Mock and Cécile Lejeune clinch impressive victories at the Belgian Waffle Ride California, each crossing the finish line solo. This outcome reshapes the competitive landscape as both riders showcase their dominance in a challenging race.
Mock finishes the elite men's division with a time that leaves Lance Haidet (Colnago-SRAM-ZIPP-Velocio) trailing by just 19 seconds, while Matthew Wilson (Scott Sports USA) rounds out the podium four seconds later. In the women's race, Lejeune establishes a significant lead, with Courtney Sherwell (Santa Cruz-SRAM-Kenda) finishing well behind, over 14 minutes later, and Hannah Shell taking third, more than five minutes after that.
The race unfolds over a grueling 107-mile (172.2 km) mixed terrain course. Lejeune breaks away early, finding herself alone by the 35-mile mark. "I kept pushing hard even after hearing my gap increase," Lejeune states, emphasizing her strategy to secure a strong performance ahead of upcoming competitions.
In the men's race, the field remains tightly contested longer, with early attacks from Brennan Wertz (Scott-Skipstone) and Thomas Fuller (Bigwheel Coaching-Enve-Shimano-Cyclery US) before Mock ultimately emerges victorious. This race not only highlights their skills but sets the stage for an exciting season ahead.
