Jhonatan Narváez is closing in on Paul Magnier in the fierce competition for the maglia ciclamino at the Giro d'Italia. This head-to-head battle could reshape the standings as the race progresses.
Narváez, riding for UAE Team Emirates-XRG, has already claimed three stage victories in Cosenza, Fermo, and Chiavari, and entered stage 14 just 11 points behind Magnier, who rides for Soudal-QuickStep. Following a successful stage, Narváez secured 12 points by winning the intermediate sprint in Roisan, surpassing Magnier by a single point in the overall standings.
In a recent interview, Narváez emphasized his determination, stating, “I will fight for it anyway.” He acknowledges the challenges ahead, particularly on mountain stages where he believes he can gain crucial points. Magnier, aware of Narváez's strengths, is now on high alert. “These are the types of stages that he can take points for the jersey,” said Magnier, recognizing the Ecuadorian's advantage in the upcoming challenges.
