Oscar Onley’s debut season with Ineos Grenadiers faces another blow as he withdraws from the Tour de Romandie due to illness.

Here’s why this setback could impact his entire season. Onley, 23, was forced to exit after suffering from a stomach bug, having finished 79th in the prologue won by Tadej Pogačar. He expressed his disappointment on Instagram, stating, “Gutted to leave the Tour de Romandie… tough start to the season… hard not to feel like I've let a lot of people down.”

This is not the first setback for Onley. He previously exited Paris-Nice while lying 10th overall after stage 5 due to illness. However, he started the season strong, finishing fourth overall at the Volta ao Algarve and placing second on the final day.

Next, Onley aims to compete at the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in June, gearing up for another Tour de France bid in July. Meanwhile, Ineos Grenadiers looks to Carlos Rodríguez, who currently sits eighth overall at Romandie, trailing Pogačar by 41 seconds. Despite Onley’s challenges, Ineos has amassed 17 wins this season, with Dorian Godon leading with four victories, including the Romandie prologue.
