Tadej Pogačar delivers a stunning performance to win Liège-Bastogne-Liège for the fourth time, overpowering 19-year-old Paul Seixas. Here’s why this victory solidifies Pogačar’s dominance in the Spring Classics.
Pogačar, racing for UAE Team Emirates-XRG, drops Seixas on the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons with 13.9 kilometers to go, riding solo to the finish line. Seixas, competing for Decathlon CMA CGM, shows immense promise by finishing second, proving he’s a formidable contender. He was the only rider able to keep pace with Pogačar's initial split on the Côte de la Redoute, which came after a lead-out by Benoît Cosnefroy 35 kilometers from the finish.
The race kicks off with Remco Evenepoel from Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe forming part of a 54-rider breakaway early on, leading by 3:40. However, UAE Team Emirates and Decathlon collaborate to reel them back in after 150 kilometers of intense action. Pogačar’s victory marks his third consecutive title and fourth overall, tying him with legends Alejandro Valverde and Moreno Argentin, and leaving only Eddy Merckx with more wins. Evenepoel finishes third, nearly two minutes behind, after struggling to maintain his early momentum.
