Noemi Rüegg, the overall leader of La Vuelta Femenina, is out of the race after a dramatic crash during stage 2. This unexpected turn of events shakes up the competition and alters the dynamics of the race.
Rüegg, who secured the lead by winning stage 1, collided with another rider with just 12 kilometers remaining in the 109.8-kilometre stage to San Cibrao das Viñas. The crash involved best young rider Eleonora Ciabocco, sending both riders into a culvert. Medics quickly attended to them, but Rüegg was unable to continue.
At the start of stage 2, Rüegg was tied on time with Franziska Koch, who gained a six-second time bonus during the intermediate sprint. After finishing second in stage 2, Koch now takes the overall lead, six seconds ahead of stage winner Shari Bossuyt.
Ciabocco, riding in the best young rider's jersey, finished 62nd in stage 2, well behind Bossuyt. Lore De Schepper claimed the white jersey after the stage, highlighting the shifting fortunes in this competitive race. The fallout from Rüegg's crash creates a new narrative as the remaining riders vie for victory in La Vuelta Femenina.
