Geerike Schreurs and Mads Würtz Schmidt dominate the Gravel Desert in Spain, each securing impressive solo victories in their respective categories. This performance highlights their prowess and sets the stage for the rest of the season.
Schreurs, racing for Specialized Off Road, finishes the elite women's race in 5:12:51, leaving her closest competitor, Axelle Dubau-Prevot of EF Education-Oatly, trailing by nearly six minutes. Hanne Van Loock from Reverb Cycling 3T completes the podium, finishing in third place.
In the men's race, European Gravel champion Mads Würtz Schmidt crosses the finish line at 4:21:32, marking his second victory in the Gravel Earth Series this year. Hugo Drechou secures second place, just over five minutes behind, while Celestin Guillon of Gravel Nation rounds out the top three.
The race, held in the Aragonese desert, features a challenging 167km route with 1,500 meters of elevation gain. Favorable weather conditions contribute to fast racing on the rugged terrain.
