Paul Seixas is making waves ahead of his Tour de France debut, setting several Strava KOMs on the demanding Col du Tourmalet. This performance hints at a serious challenge for cycling stars Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard.
Seixas, fresh off an intense altitude training camp in Sierra Nevada, tackled the climbs featured in Stage 6 of the Tour, which runs from Pau to Gavarnie-Gédre. His recent training included nearly 2,000 kilometers and 50,000 meters of elevation gain over 16 days. During his recon this past weekend, he completed a 137km ride on Saturday and a 90km ride on Sunday, where he claimed multiple segment records, including a standout 10.1km stretch from Luz St Sauveur to Super Barreges.
He surpassed Lenny Martinez’s previous KOM, finishing the climb 35 seconds faster at an impressive average speed of 23.9kph on a 6.9% gradient. While training efforts don’t always reflect race-day performance, this achievement underscores Seixas' rapid ascent in the sport. As he prepares for the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, expectations rise for his showdown against cycling's elite in July.
