Tibor del Grosso of Alpecin-Premier Tech clinches victory at the NXT Classic in a thrilling two-man sprint against Mauro Schmid of Jayco-Alula. The race unfolds in the challenging hills of the Dutch Limburg region. Casper Pedersen of Soudal-QuickStep finishes third, trailing by mere seconds.
Del Grosso and Schmid break away on the last ascent of the Gulperberg, approximately 35 kilometers from the finish in Eijsden, near the Belgian border. They manage to establish a lead, but it never surpasses a minute against a chasing pack of around 20 riders.
Tension rises as Schmid makes a desperate attack on the Moerslag climb, 13 kilometers from the line, but fails to create a gap. With the chasers closing in, the duo must regroup and work together. They enter the final 6-kilometer flat loop with only a 30-second advantage.
A late surge from three riders nearly disrupts their plans, but Del Grosso maintains his focus. He launches a powerful sprint, securing his second professional win and marking his first victory of the 2026 season. This stunning performance cements his status as a rising star in the cycling world.
