The Tour de l'Avenir Femmes is cancelled for 2026. Organisers cite a lack of women's under-23 teams and insufficient structure as the main reasons. Unlike the men's race, which started in 1961, the women's edition launched in 2023. All three past winners have been professional riders, highlighting the disparity in competition levels.
Philippe Colliou, race organiser, states, "Women's under-23 teams are currently not numerous or structured enough to fully play their role in developing young talent, unlike what is seen with the men."
The men's race transitioned to under-23 trade teams earlier this year, leaving women's teams behind. The dominance of professional riders has prompted this pause. Last year's champion, Isabella Holmgren of Lidl-Trek, exemplifies the trend, with many participants having elite racing experience. The decision reflects ongoing challenges in developing the women's cycling landscape.
