Tragedy strikes the cycling community as 21-year-old Milan Bral dies after being hit by a vehicle during a training ride in Ronse.
This heartbreaking incident sheds light on the risks faced by cyclists and the urgent need for road safety awareness.
Bral, an aspiring Belgian Under-23 rider, was transported to a Ghent hospital but succumbed to his injuries later that evening. His team, Dovy Keukens-FCC Cycling, announced his passing on Instagram, expressing deep sorrow for the loss of their teammate. This marks the second fatality in cycling within a week, following Camilo Muñoz's death from injuries sustained in a crash during the Tour de Jura.
Bral, nephew of former pro rider and current Soudal-Quickstep sports director Sep Vanmarcke, was known for his passion and dedication to the sport. His brother, Xibe, shared a poignant tribute online, promising to honor Milan's memory by "pointing to the sky" throughout the season.
Vanmarcke also reflected on their last interaction, recalling Bral's excitement about his upcoming race at U23 Gent-Wevelgem on May 10. This tragic loss underscores the fragility of life and the invaluable bonds within the cycling family.
