Anna van der Breggen (SD Worx-Protime) showcases her dominance by winning stage 6 of the Vuelta Femenina atop the challenging Les Praeres, catapulting her into the general classification lead. This victory not only highlights her climbing prowess but shifts the dynamics of the race as she overtakes her competitors.
Van der Breggen finished ahead of Paula Blasi (UAE Team ADQ) and Marion Bunel (Visma-Lease a Bike), who claimed second and third, respectively. After an aggressive start from Cédrine Kerbaol (EF Education-Oatly) on the steep 3.7km climb, Van der Breggen responded decisively, shaking off rivals on the brutal 27% gradients. With just 2.5km to go, she left Blasi behind, maintaining her lead to finish eight seconds clear. Bunel trailed by 29 seconds.
Van der Breggen, who moved from fourth to first in the overall standings, expressed her relief and excitement after the race. "It was a really hard day... I tried to get a good pace," she said, reflecting on the climb's unique challenges. Her performance not only secures her lead but sets the stage for an intense final stretch in the Vuelta Femenina.
