Visma-Lease a Bike apologizes after Axel Zingle is disqualified from the E3 Saxo Classic for taking a lengthy tow from the team car. Zingle faced a flat tire during the race and was pulled back at speed by the Visma vehicle, an act captured on video by a spectator. The incident led to his disqualification and a 100 UCI points deduction. Team boss Richard Plugge also receives a yellow card and a 500-CHF fine for his role in the situation. Team director Maarten Wynants confirms they were initially unaware of the incident until informed close to the finish line. Visma issues a formal statement, expressing regret and accepting responsibility, emphasizing that such actions do not reflect cycling’s integrity. They stress that while similar incidents occur, it does not justify their actions. Further penalties may follow for Zingle or Plugge if they receive more yellow cards within 30 days.
