Dartmouth Sailing Week launches the OneSails Next Generation Class, a groundbreaking competition for sailors aged 18 to 29. This initiative, in partnership with OneSails GBR, aims to boost youth participation in one of the UK’s premier regattas, scheduled for August 22-30, 2026.

Any boat with at least one crew member in the specified age range automatically qualifies for this new class, alongside their original racing division, such as IRC2 or IRC3. Daily prizes will be awarded to class winners, with an overall prize for the standout youth entry at the regatta’s conclusion.

In addition to the competition, OneSails GBR offers an exclusive sail repair masterclass for youth participants, providing essential skills from experienced sailmakers to enhance their sailing careers.

This initiative addresses the Royal Yachting Association's concerns about declining youth engagement in sailing. The goal is to cultivate a new generation of sailors and ensure the longevity of competitive sailing events.

Peter Boote, Joint Regatta Sailing Committee Chair, emphasizes the commitment to future generations of sailors. Nathan Steffenoni of OneSails GBR underscores the marine industry's responsibility to break down barriers for youth participation. The OneSails Next Generation Class positions Dartmouth Sailing Week as a leading event for young sailors in the UK.
