Eighteen teams from the USA and Canada gear up for the inaugural ORC Sportboat North American Championship at Charleston Race Week. This event promises thrilling competition over four days, with two classes vying for the coveted North American Champion titles.

The fleet faces two race formats: a challenging Distance Race tomorrow, spanning 16 or 20 miles, and Windward/Leeward courses from Friday to Sunday. All races take place in the stunning Charleston Harbor, providing a picturesque backdrop. Tomorrow's Distance Race is crucial, featuring boats ranging from Cape 31's and Melges 32's in Class A to GP 26's and Farr 30's in Class B. Ideal race conditions are expected, with a 10-14 knot easterly breeze forecasted.

Class A favorites include Ian Hill's Cape 31 SITELLA, fresh off a win in January, and Trey Sheehan's Melges 32 HOOLIGAN: FLAT STANLEY RACING, boasting momentum from a recent SORC series victory. In Class B, returning champion Mike Beasely sails his J/80 BLACK SHEEP, emphasizing the need for clear air to compete effectively in varying wind strengths.

Stay tuned for results and highlights from this exciting championship at Charleston Race Week.
