The final act of the 2026 Sail Port Stephens Performance Series promises high-stakes competition with a diverse fleet set to take the stage from May 1-3. This concluding series features the inaugural Cat Stephens regatta for multihulls, alongside the Super Racer Cruiser division and various off-the-beach dinghy classes.
Leading the charge is the Reichel Pugh 66 Wild Oats X, helmed by Phil Harmer, joined by notable contenders like David Gotze's Triton and Walter Carpenter's Marten 67 Caol Ila. Among the multihulls, newcomers include four Seawinds and a Lightwave 38, while five Corsair tris are ready to challenge for dominance.
The Bay Series, hosted by Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club, attracts 63 competitors across various classes, showcasing the event's competitiveness. This year’s series has delivered intense racing, highlighted by consistent easterly breezes of 5-15 knots.
In the NSW IRC Championships, David Doherty’s TRP52 Matador demonstrates exceptional skill, clinching Division 1 and the TP52 Gold Cup Act 3. With Matador's consistent performance, the team secures its place among the top contenders, equaling the achievements of other legends in the sport. This event not only showcases elite sailing but also celebrates the stunning backdrop of Nelson Bay.
