Alex Palou dominates the Indianapolis 500 pole position with a breathtaking average speed of 232.248 mph. This achievement sets the stage for a fierce defense of his title next weekend.
Palou, driving the No. 10 DHL Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing, secures his second career Indy 500 pole and takes home the NTT P1 Award along with a $100,000 bonus. “I have no words,” he exclaimed, reflecting on the unexpected speed that led to his triumph.
Despite facing a tough qualifying draw in 31st place, Palou's crew made crucial adjustments, allowing him to shine in the rising heat. His performance marks a significant milestone, as he becomes the first reigning champion to claim pole position since 2010.
Joining him on the front row are 2016 winner Alexander Rossi, securing a career-best second for Ed Carpenter Racing, and David Malukas from Team Penske in third. Felix Rosenqvist, who had been a favorite, finishes fourth, while Santino Ferrucci and Pato O’Ward round out the top six.
With such a competitive lineup, the anticipation builds for the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500, set for Sunday, May 24.
