Fernando Alonso experiences a mixed bag at the Miami Grand Prix, with Aston Martin finally achieving a reliable finish but still struggling for performance. This race marks the first time both cars complete the distance, yet Alonso's P15 and Lance Stroll's P17 highlight the team's ongoing challenges.
The team gambles on rain during Alonso's long first stint, hoping to minimize pit stops. However, the rain never arrives, leaving their strategy ineffective. Alonso states, “We managed to finish the race with both cars for the very first time, so some reliability improvements and this is the positives we have to take from Miami.”
Despite resolving earlier vibration issues with the AMR26’s Honda engine, a new problem arises with the gearbox. Alonso reveals, “Honestly, it was more the gearbox the whole weekend than the engine,” emphasizing the need for improvement ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.
Looking forward, Alonso remains realistic, acknowledging the uphill battle. He admits, “We have no upgrades until after summer,” and anticipates more of the same challenges in upcoming races. With the pressure mounting, the team must manage frustrations while preparing for a critical second half of the season.
