Oliver Bearman calls his recent crash in Monaco “the strangest” of his Formula 1 career. This unusual incident occurred during Saturday's final practice when the Haas driver lost control while navigating traffic and strayed onto a dusty part of the circuit. “I just picked up the dust and lost it,” Bearman explained, emphasizing how uncharacteristic the crash was for both him and the car.
Despite significant damage to the VF-26, Haas mechanics worked diligently to repair the car before qualifying. Bearman felt optimistic, believing his pace could easily secure a spot in Q2. “The lap that I was on when it went yellow was enough, easily, to be in the top 10,” he noted, disappointed to miss the chance to compete.
When qualifying resumed, Bearman faced a different tire strategy after a red flag. He had to push on cold tires, leading to a struggle for grip throughout his final lap. “I was five tenths down on my best lap into the tunnel,” he said. Despite pushing to the limit, the lack of grip hindered his performance, leaving Bearman frustrated and eager for a better outcome in future races.
