Recent discussions between BYD vice president Stella Li and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali signal serious intentions. Li revealed, "We maintain a warm relationship and are in regular contact," highlighting the strategic interest from BYD. As Cadillac prepares to become the 11th team, the race for the final grid slot intensifies, making BYD's ambition noteworthy.
Formula 1's shift toward hybrid technologies aligns with BYD's identity, presenting a unique platform for innovation under extreme conditions. Li expressed her passion for the sport, stating, “I love Formula 1 because it’s all about passion and culture.” Her words indicate that BYD's interest goes beyond mere curiosity; it's about proving technology in a competitive arena.
However, challenges remain. Any entry would require convincing both Domenicali and FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem of BYD's long-term commitment and technical readiness.
