Ella Häkkinen makes her Formula 4 debut at the Red Bull Ring, marking a significant milestone for the daughter of two-time F1 champion Mika Häkkinen. Here’s why her performance could reshape her racing career and the future of motorsport.
At just 15 years old, Ella joins Jenzer Motorsport in the highly competitive Formula 4 Central European Zone Championship. Facing a 27-car grid, she starts strong, finishing her first race in a commendable 9th, later adjusted to 11th due to a time penalty. Despite this minor setback, her maturity shines through.
Race 2 sees her maintain momentum, securing a top-10 finish after a late safety car freezes the order. The final race dips to 15th, but the weekend's goal of gaining experience and understanding the car is met. Notably, she also stands on the podium for the women’s trophy alongside Mathilda Paatz and Jade Jacquet.
Ella’s journey into single-seater racing follows a successful karting career, leading to her selection for the McLaren Driver Development Programme in 2025. Her father emphasizes her talent and fierce motivation. While she didn’t clinch immediate glory, this debut lays a solid foundation for a promising career ahead.
