Sergio Perez defends his performance amid claims of rust from Mario Andretti. The Formula 1 legend suggested Perez and teammate Valtteri Bottas might be “a little bit rusty” after a year away, during a recent podcast. Perez fires back, attributing his struggles to the challenges of debuting with a new car and technical issues rather than lack of sharpness.

At the Japanese Grand Prix, Perez states, “I think we've been performing on a very high level.” He reflects on his experiences in Melbourne, where he faced significant race damage, and acknowledges the complexities of his return. “I haven't had a complete weekend, but in terms of my performance, I'm fairly happy with it,” he asserts.

Recent progress at Suzuka brings hope, as Perez finishes on the lead lap and reduces his qualifying deficit. “I could see that they're not too far away,” he remarks, analyzing competitors' consistent pace.

With a five-week break due to canceled Middle East races, Perez looks ahead to a major upgrade for Cadillac’s home race in Miami. He emphasizes the importance of this upgrade, stating, “I really hope that we can make that step to be in the mix with the midfield.” Perez is ready to show he’s back in top form.
