Francesca Clapcich faces a challenging night aboard 11th Hour Racing, drifting in a windless Bay of Biscay during the 1000 Race. This situation raises questions about her strategy and resilience in a race where conditions can shift dramatically.

Clapcich currently sits in fifth place among seven competitors but is just miles away from the third and fourth spots held by Elodie Bonafous and Violette Dorange. The only boat making headway is race leader Sam Goodchild on MACIF Santé Prévoyance, who has successfully navigated into a new breeze.

In her voice note, Clapcich expresses her frustration: “Another long night - there is absolutely zero wind.” Despite the setback, she maintains a positive outlook, focusing on learning and enjoying the experience. Communication with fellow competitors is limited as they all concentrate on their own boats.

The forecast promises a strengthening east-southeast breeze along the Spanish coast, which could soon provide the necessary momentum for the fleet. Clapcich acknowledges the uncertainty: “Right now we are still 48 miles from the waypoint - at this rate, it might take 48 hours!” As conditions change, the race to Concarneau becomes a test of patience and strategy for all skippers involved.
