However, the recent Acropolis Rally in Greece has reignited discussions about tyre durability in the World Rally Championship. Specifically, the extreme conditions of the Greek terrain have highlighted the challenges that teams face. Punctures plagued many competitors, influencing the overall results of the event.

Notably, while the revised tyre showed improvements, punctures continued to be a significant issue. Only Sebastien Ogier and M-Sport-Ford's Josh McErlean managed to finish without any tyre failures. Ogier, who previously lost a potential victory in Portugal due to a puncture, acknowledged the enhancements but suggested a more specialized tyre is necessary for the unique demands of the Acropolis.
Additionally, Ogier advocated for reducing the length of one stage, citing the punishing nature of the roads. He expressed confidence that the previous tyre used in Portugal would not have endured the harsh conditions prevalent in Greece. “The one [tyre] we used in Portugal wouldn’t have finished one stage here,” he remarked, emphasizing the need for a tailored solution.

Furthermore, Thierry Neuville's experience with a double puncture during the rally underscored the unpredictable nature of the event. He noted that while some stages were manageable, others presented significant risks. Neuville suggested that the event's organizers could help by selecting less extreme routes, indicating that both tyre improvements and road conditions play crucial roles in ensuring a fair competition.
In addition, Richard Millener, team principal of M-Sport-Ford, acknowledged the difficulties that Hankook faces in adapting to the evolving demands of the WRC. He pointed out that while there were fewer delaminations compared to past events, the overall performance of the Rally1 cars has increased the pressure on tyres. Millener emphasized that striking a balance between performance and reliability is essential for both manufacturers and teams moving forward.
