The Craftinsure Supernova Traveller Series and Welsh Dragon event at Cardiff Bay showcased intense competition under sunny skies. This thrilling day of racing reveals how tactical decisions and shifting winds can dramatically influence outcomes.
The Supernova fleet faced challenging conditions with five races that tested sailors' skills. The Race Officer managed multiple course changes as the breeze intensified, creating what many called "Champagne Sailing Conditions." The opening race saw Cliff Milliner take an early lead, followed by Charles Felgate and Josh Beardshaw. As the fleet navigated the downwind leg, most opted for the port-hand route, while Paul Undrell ventured left, showcasing the tactical diversity in play.
In a fierce finish, Milliner secured victory, followed by Tom White and Gavin Young. Further down the fleet, Andy Goodman-Smith barely made the finish after a near mishap, edging out Steve Danyer and Shaun Welsh.
Race two brought a brief postponement due to a significant wind shift, leading to a reset of the course. Despite the competitive start and confusion, Milliner again capitalized on his early lead to clinch another win, while Beardshaw closed in for a strong second place. This event highlights the dynamic nature of sailing, where strategy and adaptability are key to success.
