The 2026 IMA Maxi European Championship kicks off tomorrow, featuring a thrilling offshore race as part of the legendary Regata dei Tre Golfi. This prestigious event, set between Naples and Sorrento, runs from May 22 to 28 and is a highlight of the Mediterranean sailing calendar.
The championship, organized by Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia and the International Maxi Association, showcases top-tier competition and breathtaking scenery. The race starts at 13:30 from the Bay of Santa Lucia, with an approximately 150-nautical-mile course taking competitors northwest to Ponza, circling Capri, and returning to Naples.
A fleet of 27 Maxi Yachts, divided into four IRC classes, is ready to battle it out, including renowned entries like Hap Fauth’s Bella Mente, winner of the last two IMA European titles, and the impressive 100-footers in Maxi 1, such as Magic Carpet and Leopard 3.
From May 25 to 28, the action shifts to Sorrento's Marina Piccola for four days of technical racing, featuring coastal races around the stunning Capri. This year's event promises intense competition among some of the fastest yachts in the world, making it a must-watch for sailing enthusiasts.
