Cody Bolton exits his second start with the Houston Astros due to mid-back tightness, adding to the team's injury woes. This development raises significant concerns for the Astros as they navigate a challenging stretch.
Bolton, who previously sustained a back injury from a 102.5 mph line drive in his first major league start, struggled early in the game against the Seattle Mariners. He walked his first three batters in the second inning, prompting Astros manager Joe Espada and an athletic trainer to check on him. Espada revealed that Bolton's discomfort stemmed from the same area affected by the line drive. Although Bolton attempted to push through the pain, he felt an intense tightening during the inning, ultimately forcing his exit.
The Astros are reeling, having lost three starting pitchers in their current 10-game trip, posting a dismal 1-8 record thus far. Rookie Tatsuya Imai is back in Houston for evaluation of right arm fatigue, while Cristian Javier is on the injured list with a right shoulder strain. Hunter Brown, who Bolton replaced, is also on the 15-day IL due to a shoulder issue. Compounding their struggles, All-Star shortstop Jeremy Pena is sidelined with a right knee injury.
