Davey Lopes, the legendary Dodgers infielder and four-time All-Star, passes away at 80. This loss marks the end of an era for one of baseball's greatest base stealers.
Lopes played a pivotal role in the Dodgers' record-setting infield during the 1970s and '80s, winning a World Series in 1981. He holds the franchise record for most games played at second base (1,134) and ranks second in leadoff games (1,145). With 418 stolen bases as a Dodger, Lopes boasts an impressive 83.1% success rate. Notably, he was the first Dodger since Maury Wills to steal four bases in a game and tied the NL record with five steals in a single game against the Cardinals. Beyond his playing career, Lopes managed the Milwaukee Brewers and coached with several MLB teams, including the Dodgers. He leaves behind a legacy of excellence in the sport.
