Toronto Blue Jays All-Star catcher Alejandro Kirk undergoes surgery on his fractured left thumb and is set to miss approximately six weeks. This injury, sustained during a foul tip in a recent loss to the Chicago White Sox, forces Kirk onto the 10-day injured list. He had a screw inserted into his thumb, following recommendations from a hand specialist. Kirk, who hit .282 with 15 homers last season, leaves a significant gap for the struggling Blue Jays, who sit at 4-6 this season. Tyler Heineman and rookie Brandon Valenzuela step in to fill the void. Meanwhile, veteran right-hander Max Scherzer, who exited Monday's game due to forearm tendinitis, feels good and is slated for his next start. Additionally, the Blue Jays place Addison Barger on the 10-day IL with a left ankle sprain and recall Patrick Corbin and Tyler Fitzgerald from the minors.
