Shohei Ohtani's jersey from Japan's 13-0 victory over Chinese Taipei in the World Baseball Classic shatters auction records, selling for $1,500,010. This marks the highest price ever for an Ohtani jersey at auction. In that March 6 game, Ohtani launched a grand slam and drove in five runs at the Tokyo Dome. He finished the WBC with an impressive .462 batting average and a 1.842 OPS. Ohtani’s No. 16 jersey received 298 bids during the week-long auction. This sale dwarfs the $126,100 fetched by his jersey from a previous WBC game against Australia. The recent demand for Ohtani memorabilia is fierce, evidenced by two cards selling for over $2 million in the past three months. Ohtani's 50th home run ball, sold for $4.39 million, currently faces ownership litigation, with a jury trial set for July 20.
