Philadelphia Phillies release Nick Castellanos after his beer incident last season. Castellanos admitted to breaking team rules by bringing a Presidente beer into the dugout following a game last June. Manager Rob Thomson expresses pride in Castellanos for owning up to his mistake, emphasizing the outfielder's contributions to the team. "We all make mistakes," Thomson states. Castellanos, who hit .250 with 17 homers and 72 RBIs last season, becomes available for any team at the $780,000 major league minimum. Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski indicates a change of scenery was necessary due to friction created by Castellanos' altered role. Castellanos acknowledges the support of his teammates in diffusing the situation. His defensive struggles, marked by a minus-12 outs above average, further complicate his tenure with the team. The Phillies move on as they prepare for the upcoming season.
