Seth Lugo shines in his World Baseball Classic return, leading Puerto Rico to a 5-0 victory over Colombia in Group A. Lugo delivers four-plus innings of stellar three-hit pitching at Hiram Bithorn Stadium. “Every inning you could feel the fans,” Lugo says, reflecting on the electric atmosphere. Edwin Diaz closes out the game, striking out the side in the ninth after entering to cheers, marking his return after a knee injury sidelined him for the entire 2023 MLB season. “Unbelievable moment for us,” says Puerto Rico manager Yadier Molina, praising Diaz's comeback. Lugo, who also played in the 2017 WBC, faced pressure in the second inning but escaped a jam. He leaves to a standing ovation from 18,793 fans, admitting, “I got goosebumps.” Puerto Rico looks strong as they continue their quest in the tournament.
