Daytona International Speedway is set to revolutionize its iconic 2 1/2-mile track with the installation of state-of-the-art LED lighting. This upgrade promises to create “dynamic, visually engaging moments” during race events, transforming the spectator experience both on-site and at home.
This project, in collaboration with Musco, involves placing LED lights on mast poles around the oval and road course, as well as in the infield and pit road. Emergency lights will also transition to LEDs, and accent lighting will be synchronized with caution lights, enhancing the visual spectacle.
NASCAR chief operating officer Ben Kennedy emphasizes this upgrade as part of NASCAR’s commitment to reinvest in its facilities, aiming to elevate fan engagement and visibility for partners. The new lighting system will significantly improve visibility for competitors and teams, enhancing both the live audience experience and television broadcast quality.
Moreover, the LEDs are projected to cut energy consumption by 50%, aligning with NASCAR's ambitious goal of achieving net zero operating emissions by 2035. This renovation marks the first major update since the $400 million “Daytona Rising” project and is expected to be completed by January 2027.
